Write a commentSail through some of this island’s most spectacular scenery with a song in your heart and a glass in your hand – on the unique Trad Cruise at Newry’s Iúr Cinn Fleadh next month (6th-9th September).
Singers and musicians from across Ireland and America will serenade you on the Brienne as you take in the mountains, fields and trees lining the city’s wondrous waterway that’s steeped in myth and mystery. Wine will be poured and stories will be sung.
It’s an unusual feature of the annual weekend programme, which is now enjoying its fifth year. The Iúr Cinn Fleadh committee believe theirs is the only music festival on this island that offers such a ‘culture cruise’.
The two-hour boat trip starts from Albert Basin and glides along the historic Newry Ship Canal – which predates even the famous Bridgewater Canal in north-west England. The Brienne turns at Victoria Lock to head back to the city.
Sailings are at 2pm and 7pm each day – those on the evening return trip will be welcomed by the sight of the city lights. The price of £15 includes the trip, the tunes and the tipple! Tickets are available from www.iurcinnfleah.com
