The provision of Electrical Control Systems to Enable Upgrade and Sustainable Operation of Victoria Locks, Newry is the latest item to go to tender from Newry, Mourne and Down Council. It follows issues earlier this year when craft had difficulties leaving the Newry Ship Canal.

The Tender states "The Newry Canal and Victoria Locks are an historic functioning facility owned and managed by Newry Mourne and Down District Council. Parts of the Infrastructure date back to 1850. After some recent problems and resulting inspections, the studies indicated that the electrical control and operation system requires upgrading."

The tender involves replacement of existing electrical controls for the sea gates/sluice gates, new starter equipment and other electrical work.

A budget of £19K excluding VAT is suggested and Initial contract period will run from 26/10/2020 to 27/11/2020.

Closing date for the tender is noon 15/10/20.
