The MLA welcomed the positive and inclusive nature of the Irish language and bilingualism. Commenting he said “It’s very telling that members representing Irish language advocacy groups in Stormont included unionists who understand that the Irish language is a language for all.
“Linda Irvine spoke of her continued love for the Irish language and the fantastic work being carried out in East Belfast by the Turas project in East Belfast.
“Whilst it is right and proper that Gregory Campbell apologies for his remarks against the Irish language, it’s much more important to continue to highlight the work of groups such as POBAL and Turas and many more and acknowledge the work that is happening in so many communities where linguistic diversity is being promoted across all communities.
“A language is not owned by any section of the community. It’s heartening to see the community standing up and promoting it as one.”
