Translink have apologised for delays to the X5 service from Newry to Dublin Airport on Sunday 4 October, which it says was due to "technical difficulties".
The Newry to Dublin Airport/Dublin route runs day and night and is extremely popular as a stress free way to get to Dublin Airport. While the X1 service is the most frequent service and originates in Belfast, the X5 service begins in Newry.
A reader whose name has been supplied contacted Newry.ie with their concerns. They explained that a half hour delay in the service caused them significant stress: "The airport bus scheduled for 5:05am at Newry Bus Station failed to arrive until 5:35am. The unexplained delay caused significant stress and anxiety for myself and other passengers. 10 of us were standing waiting for the delayed bus, while approximately 10 more people waited in their cars."
The reader claimed that when the bus arrived the driver didn't give any explanation and they eventually arrived at the airport just before 7am even though it was scheduled to arrive at 6:15am.
They added that they very nearly missed their flight because of the delay. "Virtually all other passengers were in the same position as me - with early morning flights to catch. In particular for the airport service, it is imperative that scheduled times are followed as passengers time their journey to coincide with their flights." they said.
A Translink spokesperson said: “We apologise to our customers for the delay to the early X5 service from Newry to Dublin on Sunday, 4th October, and for any inconvenience this may have caused.
“The coach arrived late at Newry Bus Centre due to technical difficulties.”
