Trees destroyed in 'vandalism against the community'

Several trees have been destroyed at the side of the Camlough Road, Newry in what has been described as an act of wantan vandalism.

Thirty saplings had been planted in the area as part of an environmental improvement project.

Commenting local community representative and Saoradh An Iúir chairperson, Anthony Coyle said "These trees were planted to enhance the local area and bring character to the community.

"Local residents contacted our party recently to report that numerous young trees were destroyed in what can only be described as an act of wanton vandalism against the community".

 Mr Coyle concluded "We hope these trees will be replaced in due course and we urge those responsible to desist from this type of disgusting anti-community activity".
