Write a commentCouncillor Barra Ó Muirí has condemned the people who stole a tricolour from the Hunger Strike Memorial at Fords Cross last week.
Video footage in circulation shows two men emerging from a car and attempting to lower the flag from above the Hunger Strike Memorial.
Speaking on the incident Cllr Ó Muirí said "Unable to lower it manually, they then managed to bring down the flag pole. As a result, the flag pole was damaged, the flag stolen, and the pair made their escape. They then went on to damage a flag pole at Cloghogue and vandalise the Hunger Strike monument at Carnagat."
The Slieve Gullion Councillor added "Sectarian acts like this have no place in society and should not be allowed to undermine the good work being done in South Armagh to bring communities closer together. While the people of Silverbridge can mend a flag pole and replace a flag, it is imperative that a strong emphasis is now put on the apprehension of these two individuals. If anyone recognises them, please notify the PSNI or any political/community activists in your area"
