Write a commentThree people have been arrested and material recovered following a number of recent burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Newry and Armagh areas.
Costume Corner, Newry’s costume hire business based in WIN Industrial Estate had their van stolen at the weekend but the van was recovered by An Garda Siochana yesterday in Dublin. It’s not yet known what condition it was found in.
The van had 200 hire costumes on board that were used in a production of Oliver in the Grand Opera House on Saturday night.
Police had launched an investigation following reports of burglaries at Willow Dean, Markethill, and Bracken Close, Newry, and attempted burglaries at Ravens Glen and Latt Villas in Newry overnight between Saturday, 4 October and Sunday, 5 October. A computer, mobile phone and cash were taken from the house in Bracken Close.
Inspector Kieran Quinn, Armagh Neighbourhood and Response, said: "We conducted the planned search of a house in Mullacreevie Park on Monday, 6 October and seized a number of items including mobile phones, clothing and tools. A silver Volkswagen Passat car was also seized. Items were also recovered from subsequent searches in the Callanbridge and Aghanore Walk areas.
"We arrested three people, two men aged 34 and 36 years old and a 36 year old female, for burglary and attempted burglary offences. They were later released on bail pending further enquiries.
"Our investigation is ongoing and I would ask anyone with information in relation to the incidents above to contact detectives in Newry on the 101 number."
