The oasis of calm that is Calvary at Omeath is hosting its annual Gentili Sunday later this month and organisers have put a call out for anyone who would like to help prepare the beautiful site for the day or indeed anyone who would like to help with maintenance etc at any stage throughout the year.
A native of Rome, Fr Luigi Gentili is laid to rest in the chapel at Calvary. He was sent as a missionary priest to England and Ireland and died in Dublin in 1848 from typhus fever. He was interred in Glasnevin Cemetery where he rested for 90 years before being re-interred at Calvary, Omeath.
A Mass will be celebrated in the chapel there by Fr Oliver Stansfield from the Rosminian Fathers on Sunday 28 September at 3pm followed by the 'blessing of the graves'. Everyone is welcome to come along on what is a wonderful annual occasion.
If you would like to help out beforehand or even at any stage please contact Peter Mallon on 075 5034 8823.
