If you have never walked the historic Lissummon Tunnel next weekend is your big chance. Lisa Mackle and Donal McCoy are dancing in the Lissummon GFC Strictly Come Dancing in November in the Carrickdale and they have organised this fund raising initiative, while also giving people a chance to see the gem of engineering that is on their doorstep.
It was part of a plan to have a railway line running between Newry and Enniskillen but unfortunately it only made it to Armagh. It’s Ireland’s longest railway tunnel, just a yard short of a mile, and was built in 1861 but has been disused for many years.
If you would like to take part meet at Drumbanagher Church BT35 6LW on Sunday 28th August at 2pm.
Bring wellies / coat and a torch. The walk will be 4 mile in total and there is a £10 charge per adult with kids free. Tea and sandwiches served afterwards.
