Rev Eben Grobbelaar and Jana Walsh from Killyleagh called up to Newry Museum today on the Newry stretch of their St Patrick’s Way walk.
They and other participants are raising funds for St John The Evangelist Church, Killyleagh. The walk is being completed in stages, one day a week with the aim of completing the route to Downpatrick by St Patrick's Day. Today Newry.ie caught up with them as they finished the stretch between Scarva and Newry, on the Newry Canal Towpath. With wall to wall sunshine all day it couldn't have been a better day for walking.
Saint Patrick's Way is an 82 mile walking trail between Navan Fort and Downpatrick that connects key sites relating to Saint Patrick and Christian Heritage.
Rev Grobbelaar was a Rector at St George’s Anglican Church in Parktown Johannesburg, South Africa and Assistant Rector at St Michael’s Bryanstown, South Africa before taking up his role as Parish Priest at St John's. Although planned primarily as a pilgrimage walk, it is hoped that the walk could also raise funds for various rejuvenation projects at St John's as part of the church's 385th anniversary celebrations in 2025.
