Killowen Distillery have produced a unique cask of whiskey that in a few years time will raise much needed funds for the Southern Area Hospice.

The spirit is their own words is "the best they have produced to date". The Whiskey celebrates Irish Whiskey's mash-bill tradition in a way that has largely been written out of our whiskey history. This special mash bill consists of 58% corn (oats) and the remaining is malt and rye.
These corn (oats) are collected from the local Killowen Threshing festival, which itself is in aid of the local hospice and said oats are malted and peated on-site at Killowen Distillery.

Brendan Carty said, “Producing an oat whiskey of such proportions was no easy task and the distillery hopes the carefully selected red wine cask will provide a balance the whiskey deserves”.  Killowen hopes this whiskey will be a game changer for Irish Whiskey and will donate all proceeds (bar HMRC ALCOHOL DUTY) to our Hospice.  The series will have their own labels and the first 5 will be auctioned online to maximise the funds. The only issue is we need to wait another three years to complete the legal Irish Whiskey ageing process."

James McCaffrey from Southern Area Hospice thanked Brendan and team from Killowen Distillery for thinking of them and added that the fact the oats used were from the Hospice Threshing day in Killowen, added a nice community sentiment.
