This year Warrenpoint's Blues on the Bay festival had an extra addition that of two Bluesberry, events organised within the festival by young people.
The local youth aged from 16-25 under the guiding eye of Volunteer Now took on various roles including: event managers, PR & marketing officer, digital design and production to name but a few, and were given full responsibility to ensure that the two events in Warrenpoint Town Hall and Warrenpoint Municipal Park were a roaring success.
It gave the young people an amazing opportunity to have hands on experience and gain valuable skills in organisation, customer service and management. It also provided an insight into how events like the Blues on the Bay are organised and executed, an event that attracts both local and international tourists.
A presentation evening was held in the Magnet Centre, Newry this week to recognise the contribution of the volunteers. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Gillian Fitzpatrick was in attendance and presented certificates to the participants. The chairperson commended all for their hard work and contribution to the community.
