Write a commentYoung people from the Newry & Mourne and Down Youth Councils, Education Authority) are gearing themselves up for their flagship programme, the YAFTAS 2016 (Youth and Future Talent Awards).
These are the youth awards for the Newry, Mourne and Down area and were created by Newry and Mourne Youth Council in 2012. They aim to shine the spotlight on the positive work young people are quietly doing in their homes, schools and communities for others, which go unrecognised. They are the “unsung heroes” of our district. All aspects of the awards are managed by young people from the youth councils and supported by Education Authority and Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
The process for nominating individuals or groups is now open and nomination forms are available from both the District Council and Education Authority or by contacting either of the youth councils directly. The 6 categories for awards are: Innovation & Creativity, Voice of Young People, Community Safety, Young Carer, Good Relations and Inspirational Young Person.
There is a very fair and accountable shortlisting process. The panel is made up of young people, elected representatives, district council, education authority and community and voluntary sector. All forms are anonymised so the panel have no idea which individual or group the form relates to. Each nomination form has the category criteria, nomination rules and eligibility information.
The closing date for nominations is Thursday 25th February at 17.00.
