Join the Ring of Gullion and Ulster Wildlife team for a nest box building workshop on Saturday 13 February 2.00pm - 4.00pm to promote National Nest Box Week. The workshop will take place in the Pastoral Centre, Jonesborough. Attendees will get a chance to make their very own nest box and bird feed to bring home, in the hopes of encouraging more birds to come to their garden.
Councillor Mickey Ruane, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council explains, “We are looking forward to helping the local community make their own nest box and providing information on what birds to look out for in the garden”.

Chairperson, Councillor Ruane added, “National Nest Box Week takes places from 13-22 February 2015 and it's a chance for everyone to encourage birds in to their garden to nest. The idea behind the week is to get us all to put up nest boxes in our local areas, not only to protect the wildlife we already have, but to encourage even more birds to brood in our backyards.”
Natural nest sites for birds such as holes in trees or old buildings are disappearing fast as gardens are ‘tidied’ and old houses are repaired. Taking part in NNBW gives you the chance to contribute to bird conservation whilst giving you the pleasure of observing any birds that you attract to your nest box.
