If you are looking for something amazing to entertain your children, the return from this Friday of Sticky Fingers’ International Children's Arts Festival will be just the job. Sticky Fingers’ International Festival 2023 sees the return of one of the arts venues favourite performances: On/Off by the world famous La Barraca Testoni Ragazzi from Bologna in Italy! It is a magic story and all the family will love it!
The festival runs from 25 to 31 March 2023 and with over 17 top notch events there is something for every taste with performers from Italy, England, Scotland. Poland and Japan. The event also plays host to a one day 'Invisible Borders' conference exploring the cultural identity of border communities, and how creativity can inspire positive change to children's lives.
Speaking on the festival Grainne Powell, Sticky Fingers’ Chief Executive said “This year’s programme sees the return of some of our favourite theatre companies with lots of new and old shows that are sure to be just right. A packed programme with theatre, dance, puppetry, and art, to encourage great adventures as we ignite the imagination of the audience both young and young at heart alike. We can’t wait to open the doors of the Imaginarium Centre to welcome all our families back, some with new additions to join in this special time of making magical memories, a time for family to enjoy and share, to create, to learn and to play. So, let the show begin!”
The Festival will present the Première of The Word Factory, by the Italo-Irish company Teatroletta. The performance is a loose adaptation of “La grande fabrique de mots” written by Agnès de Lestrade. It is a beautiful story about a boy who saves up his words, fights monsters and challenges the dark factory.
Another classic not to be missed this year is the Gingerbread Man by Banyan Theatre. After the show, do not miss the Shadow Puppet workshop with Karen Torley, master puppeteer, to learn the magic of puppetry under her professional tuition and have fun making a shadow puppet show!
Another event Kukki from Poland and Japan is a beautiful show for the younger audience taking you on a journey where we will touch, feel and listen to the air!
For a slightly older audience, organisers are hosting the award winning stand-up comedian Paul Currie and his acclaimed stand-up comedy show “dada dojo”
Liz Weir, Colum Sands to name a few will also join in for a packed programme of workshops and performances. And of course, there is much more for everyone to see and do!
Sticky Fingers’ Festival 2023 is funded and kindly supported by the Arts Council for Northern Ireland, Newry, Mourne & Down District Council and the Foyle Foundation.
