With an effortless sound that showcases his musical skill and talent, Camlough musician Cathal Murphy has announced the release of his newest single, Home by 9. The jazz-funk track, coming March 10th, is laced with soulful R&B vocals and neck-breaking production comparable to the work of Easy Life, Tom Misch and Remi Wolf.
Cathal presently based in Edinburgh has created a track with serious energy and serious soul. With stacked vocals, crisp mixing and a hard groove that will have your head nodding, Home by 9 deals with conflicting ideas about relationships. It’s about high school sweethearts, being young and in love and feeling the need to prove the relationship to outsiders. As the lyrics go "we’ve been told, we're too young, to feel like, we’re in love"
This year promises an exciting one for Cathal as he gears up for a 5 week tour across Germany and Switzerland playing venues ranging from 300 to 1000 capacity as part of the Irish Folk Festival - Cathals first ever solo European tour.
Cathal teamed up with London’s own Charlie Stacey on keys for this track. Cathal says “Working with Charlie (Stacey) on this one was insane, I’ve been a major fan of his playing for a while! I first heard him playing with people like Yuseff Dayes and Tom Misch and then discovered his solo recordings - he’s genuinely just on another level”
Music has always been a huge part of Cathal’s life. From the age of 16, Cathal has been touring across Europe the States over two albums with contemporary folk group Cuig and is now pursuing a solo career alongside that. Moving to Edinburgh in the midst of lockdown Cathal has already played Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, has toured the U.K as support to Ariel posen hitting venues such as O2 academy, Islington and has eagerly sold out his own headline show in Sneaky Petes.
Cathal’s latest releases have been BBC Afternoon Show’s Single of the Week, an official film soundtrack to Amazon Prime’s The Reavey Brothers and most recently Montreal Sessions ahead of Cathals U.K wide tour with Ariel Posen.
Home by 9 will be available to stream on all usual platforms on March 10th.
