Newry Shamrocks are launching their Folk Club this September with an opening gig from the incredibly talented Daoirí Farrell Trio. It will be a chance for the club to show off the newly rennovated club and a chance for Newry to host some well known names in the folk world.
Daoiri Farrell is a highly skilled and respected musician in the realm of folk music. He is known for his exceptional talents as a bazouki player and singer. With his talent and dedication to preserving and sharing traditional folk music, Daoiri has earned a reputation as a prominent figure in the folk music community. Daoirí will be joined by uilleann piper Mark Redmond and bodhran player Robbie Walsh as the Daoirí Farrell Trio.
Six months after releasing the album ‘True Born Irishman’ Daoirí won two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 for Best Newcomer and Best Traditional Track, and performed live at the awards ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Since then he has toured Ireland, the UK, Australia and Germany, and played at festivals in the same plus Canada, Belgium, Denmark, The Netherlands and more. In February 2018 he toured with the all-star Transatlantic Sessions to major venues across the UK and in 2022 and 2023 he joined Lúnasa as guest vocalist for US touring.
Daoirí released the album ‘A Lifetime Of Happiness’, produced by Dónal Lunny, in February 2019 and in Ireland was nominated for three RTE Folk Awards later that year.
His fourth album, ‘The Wedding Above In Glencree’, recorded with Trevor Hutchinson of The Waterboys/Lunasa was released earlier this year.
The Daoirí Farrell Trio play Newry Shamrocks Folk Club on Saturday 16 September at 8pm.
