Newry based Fews Ensemble is beginning a four-concert residency at Carlingford Heritage Centre on 14 June, following an acclaimed Irish tour performing Elvis Costello's The Juliet Letters.
Joanne Quigley McParland, Artistic Director of Newry Chamber Music and The Fews Ensemble, says the group will be joined by new member tenor Aaron O'Hare for the series, which is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and features music by Beethoven, Elgar, Brahms, Messiaen, Schoenberg, Rooney and more.
"We are thrilled to welcome Aaron for our first season as Ensemble in Residence at Carlingford Heritage Centre. The excitement is all the more intense as for this series we will be joined by Paul Cassidy, violist with the Brodsky Quartet for whom Elvis Costello wrote the piece we performed last winter."
The residency will also feature a world premiere by Irish composer Amy Rooney. Quigley McParland said the series demonstrated The Fews Ensemble's commitment to promoting the music of living composers alongside great works from the past.
"As Ensemble in Residence on both sides of Carlingford Lough, we're proud to see our cross-border region increasingly recognised internationally as a place of great culture and excellence in classical music, traditional music, and the arts more broadly."
The four concerts are all scheduled to begin at 2pm, on 14 June, 27 September, 15 November and 6 December.
Violinist Stephanie Gonley, who performs on the world stage, will join the ensemble for the sextet concert in November.
