The 2025 Lislea Drama Festival kicks off next weekend at Lislea Community Centre with seven incredible plays being performed between Saturday 22 February and Saturday 8 March. There's comedy, suspense and of course plenty of drama! This year dramatic societies from Wicklow, Mayo, Galway, Monaghan and Tyrone are taking part along with Lislea Dramatic Players of course.
This year the Festival Adjudicator is Paddy Farrelly A.D.A.
Aidan Strain Electrical Engineering are the main sponsors of the festival and tickets can be bought at the Box Office from 7- 8pm: Adults £8 and Children £4. A season ticket is also available.
The Plays
Thy Will Be Done by Michael Carey - Saturday 22 Feb, 8pm
Brothers Jack and Peteen haven’t spoken for 40 years and caught between the “spittin aul weasel” and “the antichrist”, is gossiping housekeeper Bridie and an estranged American son. A dramatic and entertaining play full of hilarity and sharp dialogue but with an unexpected and compelling ending.

The Weir by Conor McPherson - Sun 23 Feb, 8pm
A spellbinding and award-winning play from the master of suspense. Four locals in a remote bar take turns telling ghost stories to spook Dublin newcomer Valerie. As the drinks flow and the stories intensify, it transpires that Valerie has a tale that will stop the listeners dead in their tracks.

The Woodsman by Stephen Fechter - Wednesday 26 February 8pm
After 12 years in prison for sexual convictions against minors, Walter is now back out in the world trying to move forward with his life. As he deals with society’s revulsion for people like him along with his own self-loathing, the pressure becomes too much and he begins to crack.

The Dry House by Eugene O Hare - Saturday 1 March, 8pm
Chrissy promises her sister Claire that she will go to the dry house to get sober. Does she mean it this time? One woman's refusal to give up on her sister drives this emotionally searingdrama set in Newry about love, loss and the possibility of hope after years of self-destruction.

The Remains of Maisie Duggan by Carmel Winters - Sunday 2 March, 8pm
Kathleen Duggan has rushed home to Ireland upon hearing the news that her mother, Maisie, has died, only to discover that her mother is alive and well. Almost! After a minor car accident, Maisie believes that she actually is now dead and wanders around the homestead awaiting her funeral. (Not suitable for Primary school children)

Dead Guilty by Richard Harris - Wednesday 5 March, 8pm
Two women, two secrets and a truth that kills. Graphic designer Julia is seriously traumatised and becomes housebound following a car accident. But as her friends rally to look after her, a series of events lead her to believe that someone knows that the accident was not quite what it seemed.

Class by David Horan & Iseult Golden followed by Awards Night - Saturday 8 March, 7.30pm
Brian and Donna's son is struggling at school so the teacher recommends the services of an educational psychologist. But this recently separated couple never liked school and never liked teachers. An explosive triple confrontation that looks at society through the prism of a parent-teacher meeting. No interval
