Thomas Davis GFC  have announced at the weekend that they are hosting a new three-night music festival in May 2025 at their grounds at Dorans Hill, Corrinshego on the outskirts of Newry.

Plans are well advanced for the exciting event with organisers busy finalising the lineup over the past few days.  Billed as Newry's newest music festival 'Iur Music Fest' will run on the late May Bank Holiday weekend from May 23 to 25. The gigs will be held in a marquee, with a capacity of 2,000 people per night subject to licence.

The event will feature a host of acts, including the Tumbling Paddies, The Highstool Prophets and Ruaile Buaile with proceeds going to the club development fund.

Tiernan Hanna, who came up with the idea hopes the plans will help get Newry going "I was at a festival down in Inniskeen in Monaghan, and a few people were at Leitrim as well. Leitrim is really the big inspiration. We went up to Leitrim, and we were talking to their Organising Committee and they were a great help. Newry doesn't have anything like this, everybody's struggling at the minute with the lack of events here, people are going to Belfast, there's nearly a bus every week down to some pub in The Moy. It's trying to keep stuff in Newry and keep Newry going a bit"

Already the organisers have received encouraging support from local political representatives and closer to the time they will be seeking volunteers to help with the smooth running of the event.

Iúr Music Fest has a brilliant lineup of incredible Irish talent, guaranteed to make it a weekend to remember. Friday 23 May kicks off with the high-energy sounds of The Tumbling Paddies known for their brilliant mix of folk, country, and trad influences that get any crowd dancing. They’ll be joined by Colin Graham Music.

Saturday 24 brings you The Highstool Prophets, one of Ireland's most exciting live acts. Their high energy setlist promises an unforgettable night. They'll be sharing the stage with Screelin’ and Caitlin Mackin.

Sunday will bring the festival to a close with a bang as Ruaile Buaile bring their 5 piece twisted-trad band to the stage, ensuring the weekend ends on a high note. The evening will also feature performances from Sean Magee Music and Odhran Murphy both rising stars in the Irish music scene.

Organisers are presently trying to work out a deal with local accommodation providers so that the people that are staying will be staying in Newry and spending money in Newry, not just up at Thomas Davis here, but in Newry itself. They are also investigating the potential of a shuttle bus from the city centre.
