A Grammy Award-winning violinist's special performance at the Ulster Hall is set to reach audiences across Ireland and the UK after being filmed for Sky Arts by Newry-based production company Big Mountain Productions.
Nicola Benedetti returned to Belfast last week as part of her first solo tour in 10 years, with the concert captured by Big Mountain for broadcast later this month.
The 90-minute programme will blend virtuosic performance with intimate storytelling, as Benedetti presents a carefully curated selection of shorter works ranging from the deeply romantic to the dazzlingly virtuosic, alongside pieces inspired by folk traditions. Throughout the performance, she shares personal reflections on her musical choices and insights drawn from the past decade of her artistic life.
Joining Benedetti on stage were Brazilian guitarist Plinio Fernandes, accordionist Samuele Telari, cellist Maxim Calver, and other guest musicians.
Speaking about the tour, Nicola said: "This tour has been such a musical and personal gift for me. Each city and venue brings its history, significance and uniqueness. However, for various reasons, Belfast has seen the convergence of so many personal and professional paths. It is a great honour to have Sky Arts and Big Mountain Productions bring their expertise to capture this special occasion for us, which will go down as a moment to remember."
Nicola Benedetti & Friends will be broadcast on Monday 29 December on Sky Arts at 7.30pm, and will also be available for streaming on NOW.
