Newry Museum and the Old Newry Society are holding a talk on Newry's Famous Artist, Margaret Clarke RHA.
The event at Newry Museum on Saturday 25 March will focus on her time at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art, her studies, friendships & early career. Margaret Crilley was born at Thomas Street in Newry in 1884. She studied painting in Dublin under Irish artist Sir William Orphen at the Metropolitan School of Art.
Ms Clarke married stained glass artist Harry Clarke in 1914. She was well known as a portrait painter choosing her own family members on many occasions as subjects. President DeValera and Archbishop McQuaid were just two of her well known subjects.
Giving the talk is Carla Briggs, Curator of Slides School of Art History and Cultural Policy, UCD. Newry Museum has five Margaret Clarke paintings in their collection.

Old Newry Society are also hosting a Bus Tour of Creggan Graveyard on Saturday 22 April led by local historian, Una Walsh with Lunch.
Newry Museum also continue their Spring Lecture series on 30 March at 2pm with Land Border in Ireland - 100 Years On with speaker Dr Cormac Moore, author of 'The Birth of the Border: The Impact of Partition in Ireland'.
