Recreational art students from Newry, Warrenpoint and Banbridge showcased their work at Southern Regional College's annual end-of-year exhibition. The exhibition was held at the College's Newry campus on Wednesday 17 June 2026and was led by course lecturer Nigel Whiteside, marked the culmination of another successful year for the popular art programme.

Students presented an impressive collection of artwork covering a range of styles, themes and mediums, from vibrant landscapes to detailed portraits, highlighting the talent, dedication and personal journeys of those involved. The recreational art classes are delivered at SRC's Newry campus and in community venues throughout the local area, continuing to attract both new and returning students.
Among those exhibiting was Newry's Rose Gray, who has explored her creative side through SRC courses over several years. Having previously focused on crafts and knitting, Gray has recently discovered a passion for painting and now enjoys experimenting with different artistic techniques and styles.
Fellow student Sally McCardle from Warrenpoint has been attending courses at SRC for almost 20 years. McCardle said: "I have been studying with the College for around 20 years and have completed a variety of different courses during that time. I would recommend this class to anyone who is considering it. Nigel's encouragement, enthusiasm and openness create such a positive learning environment, and that is one of the main reasons I have continued to return year after year."

Stephen Rogan, Head of Faculty for Computing, Design & Academic Studies at Southern Regional College, said it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces returning each year to continue developing their artistic talents. Rogan said: "The exhibition is a celebration not only of the artwork produced, but also of the friendships, confidence and sense of achievement that these classes help to foster. We congratulate all students on their outstanding work and look forward to welcoming many of them back again in September."
