Other parts of the north may have the filming of Game of Thrones and the twenty million pounds boost to the economy that goes with it but not to be outdone our own Sugar Island was last night under the scrutiny of the camera crews (well one camera crew!) as filming continued for the epic production of The Ghost of Sugar Island which local filmmaker Brian Dick proudly calls an 'ultra low budget' movie.
Filming took place in The Paper Rack Newsagents with one of the cast, none other than well known Newry personality Hilary Halliday!
Hilary briefly swopped the intense drama of Newry and Mourne District Council where she works in the Public Relations department for a different type of drama altogether as she took on the part of the warm-hearted and ever-optimistic newsagent, no doubt something that will stand her in good stead as Newry and Mourne and Down Council's move towards merging later this year!
The Ghost of Sugar Island' also features Newpoint Player's Donal O'Hanlon, who plays a grumpy Publican 'with a secret sadness' and Ruby Madden.
Donal is an experienced actor and he has just finished playing in Frankenstein as part of Newry Drama Festival, a new adaptation by Sean Treanor.
