in March 09 and a good first quarter of the year signaling increased confidence in the market.
Figures released this week show the agency sold over 400% more houses in January to March 09 compared to the same period last year and 50% more house sales than Jan to March 07.
March 09 proved a record month for sales with 18 properties completed – mainly new development properties to first time buyers.
In value terms the rise in house sales represents an increase of over 288% on the same quarter last year, with a total sales value in excess of £5M, for 33 completed sales, compared with £1.7M sales figures for January to March 08. The website traffic supports this increased interest and shows an 87 % increase on hits this quarter in contrast with the three previous months (Sept-Dec).
Adrian Doran of the residential team says: “It’s encouraging to see confidence returning and certainly we’ve noted a significant increase in enquiries and transactions this month. Backed up demand over the winter months has had an impact but we’ve still some way to go before traditionally healthy levels of sales are achieved.”
Managing Director Garry Best added: “Incentives like low interest rates, combined with realistic asking prices have improved the market and I’d anticipate sales will continue to increase. However, the rate of recovery will be moderated by the deteriorating labour market conditions we are currently experiencing.
“On a positive note, it’s a buyers market and this is set to continue for some time to come.
