Newry based Fisher & Fisher Solicitors has been commemorating its 125th anniversary throughout 2023. With six branches across Northern Ireland, the firm is acknowledging the efforts of its team of over 40 professionals by providing each member with £125 worth of vouchers to spend at local businesses in Newry. These vouchers, sourced from establishments such as Gordon’s Chemist, Nugelato Ice-Cream Parlour, George Preston Florist, and Friar Tucks on Sugar Island, aim to support businesses impacted by recent flooding in the region.
Jacqueline Malone, a representative from Fisher & Fisher, explained the firm's decision to redirect its planned celebrations towards supporting local businesses affected by flooding. Malone stated, "We thought, what better way to support them than by encouraging our team to shop local, particularly in Newry."
Ronan McGuigan, another member of the Fisher & Fisher team, emphasized the practical significance of the initiative. With more than 40 team members spread across six offices, the firm aims to strengthen its existing business relationships with local vendors. McGuigan stated, "This initiative allows us to show a token of appreciation to both our team and our local business community in Newry."
Eamonn Connolly, Manager of Newry's Business Improvement District (BID), commended Fisher & Fisher's initiative for its positive impact on the local community. Connolly highlighted the importance of such support for businesses recovering from flooding and encouraged other businesses to consider similar actions.
Fisher & Fisher Solicitors, known as one of Northern Ireland's oldest family legal practices, operates offices in Kilkeel, Newcastle, Rathfriland, Belfast, and Donaghadee, in addition to its Newry headquarters. As the firm observes its 125th anniversary, this initiative highlights its commitment to supporting the local business community in Newry during challenging times.
