Preparations are well underway for the 25th Newry Business Charity Christmas Dinner which will take place in December in the city. Over the past 24 years with the help of guests and the massive toy mountain produced every year the team in charge of the event have raised around £1.95 million.
This year the charity dinner will be held on Thursday 5 December from 6pm at The Canal Court Hotel in Newry.
The hard working committee are currently working in the background to ensure that, as in every other year, no child in the greater Newry area will go without a toy this Christmas.
Each year guests are asked to bring a toy, or make a donation to the toy mountain appeal on the evening.
A spokesperson for the committee said "As we know, at this time of year is particularly difficult year for so many families, so we will be as always, asking for the local community to come out and support us as much as they possibly can, to help ensure that those children less fortunate receive a toy on Christmas morning.
"This has always been a community wide effort in support of Southern Area Hospice, St Vincent de Paul Society, The Salvation Army, Women’s Aid, Caring Coins and many other local charities in the area, at a time when needs are most poignant."
In 2023 the event raised over £122,000 on the night and this year the organising committee are asking people to make a special effort to help on their silver anniversary, to give as if it were their own children facing a cold empty Christmas.
You can donate cash via their Go Fund Me Page at www.gofundme.com or you can book a ticket to attend the evening event at www.eventbrite.co.uk
Tickets are priced at £70 per individual ticket, or a table of 10 priced at £650.00 and the event is strictly limited to 500, so early booking is essential.
