Crotlieve Councillor Mark Gibbons is organising a Halloween storytelling event at The Hidden Garden in Warrenpoint next Friday 23 October and there's just a few tickets left.
The evening, called Frights and Folklore by the Fire, runs from 7pm to 9pm and is for ages 16 and over, with only 20 tickets available. It follows his Halloween event at Pawfect Paws in Rostrevor on 27 October, which sold out in just a few hours.
Councillor Gibbons said the event is aimed at young people, especially young lads, who might otherwise have little to do at Halloween.
“This is my own small attempt to give young people, especially young lads, something different to do at Halloween. Somewhere to gather, have a laugh and get caught up in a few stories.
"If something like this had been on when I was that age, it might have kept me out of some of the trouble I got myself into”
He has teamed up with The Hidden Garden in Warrenpoint for the night and the Hidden Garden Coffee Bar will also be open, serving treats and traybakes.
Cllr Gibbons will draw on his Cloch Mór Lore series and his own haunted family journey to share how stories of the supernatural connect people to place, memory, history and one another. The stories on offer include The Laughing Man, No. 5 Water Street, What’s Under St Mark’s?, The Mound Road Ghosts, Lassara’s Leap, The Lord Blayney Ghost Ship, The Commercial Club and the real and haunting story behind Kodak Corner, with many more to come.
He said: “I’d love you to join me for an evening celebrating the power of imagination, storytelling and the ghosts that shape who we are.”
Cllr Gibbons added: “Whether you believe in ghosts or not, we all carry stories that stay with us for a lifetime. Let’s share them before they are lost forever.”
