The walls of Bagenal's Castle will resonate with the acoustic folk of Noctambule – Bruce Victor and Marla Fibish from San Francisco – who are back in Ireland after the pandemic.

After successful summer gigs at Newry’s Iúr Cinn Fleadh and Fiddler's Green International Festival, Rostrevor, they will play a concert at Newry Museum at 2pm on 10th September, as part of European Heritage Open Days 2022.

When they perform, Bruce and Marla take their audience on a journey. This time they will take their listeners to the grand Banqueting Room in this 16th century fortified house. The stone walls are the perfect setting to experience Noctambule’s distinctive sound.

Noctambule also have a brand new album to share – they are presenting the Ireland launch of their pandemic recording Every Migrant Is My Fellow. The selection has already been hailed by Irish Music magazine as ‘a keystone album for our time’.

The couple are faithful friends of Iúr Cinn Fleadh, having performed a number of times here before the pandemic. At the Fleadh last month, they played at an Acoustics & Classics By Candlelight at Nan Rice’s, Newry; with singer-songwriter Tommy Sands at a Call The Musician seminar in the Centred Soul wellbeing café; and at their own poetry and music workshop at Newry City Library.

Their first ever gig at Fiddler’s Green in July was well received. Noctambule’s lunchtime folk club set at the Kilbroney Bar drew such a crowd, the venue ran out of space to accommodate more chairs. Bruce was a key speaker at a day-long workshop on music and healing, with the likes of Tommy Sands and sean-nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird.

Bruce and Marla play traditional and original music in a variety of forms. Their work is rendered with sensitivity and humour on an unusual array of strings – different guitars in varied tunings, mandolin, mandola, cittern, tenor guitar – and their blended voices.

The castle concert is free, but booking is essential. Contact declan.carroll@nmandd.org to reserve tickets. For more information on Noctambule, visit www.noctambulemusic.com
