Nuala and Noleen are hitting the stage in Newry Town Hall as they proudly present their new comedy play It's Wine O'Clock from the 14th to the 16th of March.
The farmer's wife Vera, is so excited as her only son Seamus is getting married! Everyone is cordially invited to watch the shenanigans which unfold on this special day. With the Winebulance providing the drink, the band 'Keep er Lit' keeping everyone on the dance floor. Not to mention the other special guests, Pat and Eamon, the Bridesmaids, the Yummy Mummies, the Grannies, and of course Nuala and Noleen always looking for love!

‘Coastal flavours and Culinary Feasts’ is a nine day celebration of the food and drink in Newry, Mourne and Down and as part of the festivities Newry will see the return of the Twilight Market on Friday 10 March running at Newry Variety Market from 5pm-10pm. The free event will showcase local produce from our area with a wide selection of pop up restaurants, food producers, craft beers and ciders and full bar facilities and entertainment.
The Canal Court are also joining in with Ireland's Ancient East Dining Experience from 5.30pm-9.30pm on 16 March. Priced at £29 per person it will be a culinary journey through the regions of Ireland.
Sweet Pea Cafe in Warrenpoint and The Rostrevor Inn are also getting in on the act on Friday 10 and Monday 12 March.
From Friday 10 to Sunday 19 March, diners will be spoilt for choice as restaurants, cafés and pubs serve up bespoke menus and unique food experiences to celebrate Newry, Mourne and Down’s bustling food and drink scene. Organisers Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Food NI are encouraging everyone to try something new or book a table at a tried-and-tested favourite to celebrate.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is promoting a district wide ‘Make it Local’ campaign and all the establishments involved in the culinary celebration have embraced the concept of using local ingredients in all dishes. The Annual St Patrick’s Day Parade leaves from outside The Quays in Newry at 12 Noon making it’s way down Merchants Quay, through Sugar Island, Kildare Street and up Hill Street. As usual you’ll be promised plenty of colour, music and fun for all.

Warrenpoint group The Cabbage Patchers are hosting a Funday Sunday this Sunday 19 March 2017 from 1-6pm at Warrenpoint FC. It's for people of all ages. Gardening tips, a forage trail, mini six aside tournament and loads of outdoor fun is promised.
The Cabbage Patchers is an intergenerational cross-community growing project whose aim is to build a sustainable future by promoting a greener environment, healthier lifestyle and more inclusive community, relieving economic pressures and social exclusion.

One of Ireland’s coolest family events, Footsteps in the Forest is back this year at Slieve Gullion Forest Park for a weekend of enchantment and mystery on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June 2017.
Last years inaugural festival won the 2016 Heritage Council of Ireland, Cool for Kids award. The event saw thousands of children spell bound as they wove their way through the enchanted forest, encountering mythical creatures gathering for a high summer meeting. This year they’re back and a new quest has presented itself. As they gather on the mountain once more, news reaches the forest of a new challenge to the peaceful order.
This year’s festival will hold a connection to Wake the Giant, in Warrenpoint at the end of August and will tell the tale of giant, Finn McCool and the magic rings of Gullion. The forest fairies and mountain trolls themselves will take visitors on a magical treasure hunt as the story comes to life around them.
Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “Last year’s Footsteps in the Forest was a fantastic event and a worthy award winner and I am excited to discover what the mythical creatures of Slieve Gullion Forest has in store for us in June. This event is to the fore of sharing our unique ‘Mountains, Myths and Maritime’; the elements identified through our recently launched Tourism Strategy that are the unique selling points of our area. Events such as this act as a great attractor of visitors to the district and generate a very significant annual contribution, circa £8m, for the local economy.”
The festival will have something for fantasy lovers of all ages. As well as a huge cast of magical creatures, it will have an abundance of family fun wherever you turn. Take part in children’s craft workshops in sword and shield making, watch a real blacksmith at work and try your hand at wood turning and other fascinating crafts. There’s traditional Irish music and delicious foods from local artisan producers and so much more.

Next month sees the 2017 Mourne International Walking Festival taking place from Friday 23 June to Sunday 25 June.
The festival, based in Warrenpoint traditionally attracts walkers from all over the world and for 2017 the organisers would like to see people from all over Northern Ireland join our international visitors.
Organisers are delighted that the Mourne International Walking Festival has recently been awarded ‘2016 Best Walking Festival’ and the Mourne Mountains have been awarded ‘2016 Best Walking Destination in Northern Ireland’.
There are a range of both guided and self-guided walks to suit various levels of fitness and experience so that families, strollers and serious walkers alike can take part. The lowland routes are pre-marked allowing you to walk at your own pace and are perfect for those wishing to take kids along, with refreshments at control points at intervals along the route. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult
Pre booking is open now and a pre-booking discount is available. Alternatively, you can register on the morning of the walks.
You can revive tired feet with music at the annual Blister Ball, which is held this year in the Lough and Quay, Warrenpoint.

A quiz night has been organised by Camlough Heritage Society in memory of the late Emmett Byrne.
The former teacher in St Peter’s Primary School was a well- loved active member of the local community who held positions as secretary in the Camlough Heritage Society, and former secretary of Shane O’Neill’s GAA Club and the Camlloch Seamus Steele Cumann.
All proceeds from this annual charity event will this year go to local "athletes" Larry McCabe & Pat McGinn Southern Area Hospice Great North Run Fundraiser. The event will take place at Doyles Bar Camlough on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. Quiz Master is Peter Lynch. All are welcome to attend and remember our friend, neighbour, colleague & comrade Emmett and to support the Southern Area Hospice.

A very special Concert will be held in Warrenpoint Town Hall on Thursday 29 June 7 30pm with music embracing local cultures as well as songs from other countries .
The concert came from a project by Accolade Community Choirs called Tell me a story, I’ll sing you a song named after Colum Sand’s song Tell me a story.
It's the culmination of almost two year’s work by Accolade Choirs from Newry and Banbridge and the Accolade Orchestra,The musical director is Nikolay Ivanov and the project manager and conductor is Veselka Ivanova. Under the outstanding professionalism of Vessie and Nikolay, Accolade has grown since its inception in 2013 to include the two choirs, an orchestra and a Bulgarian dance troupe.
The project evolved when the choirs were learning new songs from the countries of some of their members, in Portuguese, Shona/ Zimbabwean, and Polish. Those members enriched the experience as they were able to tell about their culture, and feelings about being away from their original homeland. It became obvious that those living away from home shared similar feelings and experiences. Newry Accolade choir also had the joy of singing songs about their native County Down when at a festival in Prague last year. At night when groups of them sat outside restaurants and sang songs of Ireland, so many people came to join in singing, clapping and ask questions about our home place. It further convinced the choir of the universality of singing a song and telling a story.
Nikolay and Vessie discussed with Tommy, Colum, Ben Sands and Brendan Monaghan the possibility of arranging some of their songs and music to be included in the project for the Accolade Choirs. Nikolay was delighted with their enthusiastic response and started work straight away. Tommy Colum and Ben have taken workshops with the choirs, singing their much loved songs and telling their own stories. The composers and guest artists have been sharing their experiences of travelling all over the world and how people responded to their songs of home and the simple things of life. Vineta Maksus Sergey Ussenko and Nikolay who play in the Accolade Orchestra talked about people from Latvia, Russia, and Bulgaria who now live in Northern Ireland. What has become apparent through the project Tell me a story I’ll sing you a song is the power of music and the telling of one’s story, to draw people from diverse cultures together, in a spirit of understanding and solidarity. The Arts Council of Northern Ireland are continuing to fund this project and Accolade are extremely grateful for this support.

With just four weeks to go from today the fourth annual Iúr Cinn Fleadh kicks off in Newry from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th September and already with one of the gigs, well on it’s way to being a sell out, it’s gearing up to be the most memorable yet, with many new events destined to attract even more visitors to Newry city.
Legendary De Danann singer Eleanor Shanley has been on the trad scene for many years and she will join local group Cuig for a concert on Friday 8th at Live at the Market for an outstanding night of song and music.
Once again the bars in Newry will be alive with music and crack with the annual Trad Trail bringing the best musical talent to the city on the Friday and Saturday night of the fleadh.
A new event for this year is the first performance of the newly formed Newry Trad Youth Orchestra on Saturday 9th at Riverside Church. The orchestra comprising over 40 young people was formed during the summer following a call out from Iúr Cinn Fleadh for local musicians. Under the musical direction of renowned local musician, Ursula Byrne. It promises to be a spectacular expose of our local young incredibly talented musicians.
As part of the fleadh’s mission to showcase local talent this year they have launched their inaugural Musical Icon Award which sees local fiddle supremo Jimmy Burns receive the award at a function in Bellinis on Thursday 7th.
Another addition will see Carlingford Lough Curragh Club host a music session on their Currach’s on Newry Canal on Sunday 10th outside the Canal Court.
Fleadh committee member Columba O’Hare said “This year we believe we have produced the largest, most exciting and varied programme of events ever for Iúr Cinn Fleadh, a programme that will bring so much life and energy to Newry City on the second weekend in September. As a committee member it’s a privilege to be involved with a team that are here for the long haul, an incredibly talented team that are determined to put Newry on the world festival map.
“I’d especially like to thank volunteer Johnny Savage for his professional design and speedy production of our fleadh event guide, poster and billboards. I’d also appeal to Newry people to support and take ownership of Iúr Cinn Fleadh and help revitalise Newry for everyone”
The popular Trad Cruises are back once again on Newry Canal with Armagh and Down musicians joining musicians from London, Louth and Wicklow to play a variety of gigs on the tall ship Soteria, journeying to Victoria Lock and back, with passengers enjoying a few glasses of wine or soft drink refreshments as part of the package.
Kevin McAleer provides the comedy once again at the Fleadh on Thursday 7th with his Saying Yes to Yes tour bringing “meditation, mindfulness, deep breathing, bananarama yoga, bee venom therapy, psychic flower arranging, singing with dolphins and weight loss through levitation.” to Live at the Market.
Sticky Fingers are hosting several Fleadh events at their new premises in Edward Street with an Irish Myths and Legends Stories and Song Session on Thursday 7th.
Bodhrán and Tin Whistle Workshops are on offer on Saturday 9th with Bodhrán tutors Fergal O’Brien and Réne de Kat and Tin Whistle Tutor Oisin McCann in residence at Newry Library.
For the more energetic type on Saturday 9th Newry Rowing Club will offer a free rowing experience on the canal outside The Quays while on the Sunday Carlingford Lough Curragh Club will be giving free trips on the Canal from outside the Canal Court. Newry Rowing Club will also be holding a rowing marathon on the Sunday covering 26 miles back and forward between the Quays and the Albert Basin.
Other events include Richard Alexander and Eilidh Patterson, Riverside Church; A wonderful night of food and music from Briege Quinn and Finbar Magee in Finegan and Son; The Scratch bring rock to trad at Bellini The Caroline Session at the Canal Court and a great night of storytelling and song at the Railway Bar. With well over 60 events billed for the weekend there will be no shortage of entertainment in Newry that weekend.
