The Old Newry Society is 50 Years old in 2018 and to celebrate they are holding their 50th Anniversary Dinner on Saturday 28th April at the Canal Court Hotel.
Tickets can be purchased from Crash Services, St Marys Street, Newry for £30.
The society held their first meeting 29 May 1968 after a lecture on 'sources of local history' by Brian Traynor, Public records Office where John Bell, President of Abbey CBS Past Pupils Union raised the question of forming a society 'for the purpose of gathering and preserving interesting items of Newry's past'
The society was formed on the spot with Kevin P. Newry elected as Chairman. Other members of the committee included Dr Padraig Quinn, Vice Chairman; P.A. Crinion, Hon Secretary; Matt McAteer Hon Treasurer. Committee: Una McClafferty, Nora Cooper, Rev R.S. Peters, Rev William McMillan, G. Mindreader, BBC star and mentalist David Meade will wrap up his ‘Wizard of Odds’ tour in Newry Town Hall on 19 May 2018.
Now performing all over the world, David’s ‘Wizard of Odds’ national tour on home soil has been blowing minds across the country.
The tour - his biggest yet - has sold out in venues across Ireland to over 7,000 people.
“It’s been fantastic to have the show so well received from Belfast to Dublin and, for me, it’s really special to close the tour in my home City,” David says.
“Last year was the first time we took the tour to Newry and this year we added two nights in the City as the feedback was so good.
“We were here in February and the audience was really energising. The Town Hall looks fabulous too since its restoration so we’re really looking forward to getting back to Newry for the final show this year on 19th May 2018.
“This year it’s a brand new show so I hope to welcome new audiences and old friends for lots of laughs, impossible feats, mindreading and general mayhem!” he adds.

The 20th International Guinness® Blues on the Bay Festival has kicked off in Warrenpoint and it runs all the way through to Bank Holiday Monday 28 May.
Perfect weather is forecast for the annual festival and once again it plays host to some of the world’s leading blues and jazz performers.
Sponsored by Diageo, the festival attracts thousands of music loving locals and tourists with many coming from across the globe to visit the renowned festival.

The Ulster Fleadh is underway this week in the beautiful village of Castlewellan with a great depth of events all week, but especially at the weekend.
Last time the Ulster Fleadh was held in Castlewellan was 2010. In the intervening years the festival has gone from strength to strength attracting many thousands of visitors over it's July weekend.
From concerts to walks to film and of course sessions, there is no shortage of things to do.
Highlights include a concert this Tuesday 24 July with the CEOL group and Castlewellan Interchurch Choir at 7pm in The Lodge, a Hip Hop Dance workshop as Gaeilge Wednesday 25 from 11.30am to 1.30pm at The Lodge and Newry, Mourne and Down Trad Orchestra with support from Colum Sands in St Malachy's Church on Thursday 26 at 7pm.
Official opening night has dancing competitions, Session Trail, Sets Céilí and a singing session at various venues around Castlewellan.
Saturday and Sunday bring the main competitions, open air gigs, sessions, childrens events and the Fleadh Parade at 9pm (Saturday).

The brilliant sequel to The History of the Troubles (accordin’ to my Da), is on tour and comes to Newry Town Hall on Saturday 25 August at 7.30pm.
Written by Martin Lynch and Grimes & McKee, and directed by Dan Gordon, the History of the Peace (accordin’ to my Ma) show tells a peaceful tale of street protests, riots, guns, bombings, the RHI Scandal, the latest Stormont collapse and even more riots!
The sequel also sees the return of the legendary ‘Fireball’, joined by a host of hilarious new characters including; Pineapple ‘the paramilitary’, Stacey, ‘the Flegs woman’, Roberto ‘the Flute band leader’ and many more.
As expected from Lynch, Grimes & McKee, the show will be especially updated to raise a laugh out of the very latest ‘peaceful events in Norn Iron’ and is set to be another classic hit. The show contains adult references and strong language; therefore it is recommended for persons over sixteen years of age.

Following the recent success of Belinda O'Neill & Claudia McAvoy's sell out Ladies Charity Sparkling Afternoon Tea the sisters have decided to repeat the event in November. Their last event raised £2000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The next Sparkling Afternoon Tea will be held on Friday 9th November 12.30-3.30pm in the Carrickdale Hotel. MC will once again be Denise Watson, the Keynote Speaker is the best selling author Bernadette Bohan with music by Harpist, Sharon Carroll. This years event will also have a 'Best Dressed' which will be judged by Tracey Hall owner of the Style Academy Model Agency.
Proceeds of this years event will go to the Intensive Care Unit in Craigavon Area Hospital and PIPS Hope & Support.

Festival of Flight returns to Newcastle this weekend with a stunning airborne display, led by the Red Arrows on Saturday 11 August.
The air display is only one part of the festival with family fun events including an Aviation Centre, Food Village, Live Music and an RAF100 STEM and Youth Zone. These activities will be located at Castle Park and Donard Playing Fields.
The RAF100 STEM and Youth Zone will concentrate on innovation in the world of aviation in a bid to encourage young people to explore the world of aerospace. There will also be the opportunity for the public to get up close to iconic aircraft from the RAF’s 100-year history and immerse themselves in technology progressions in aeronautics. The aircraft tour will be located in Donard Park. All areas are available to visit for free on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August.

This year there is a uniquely designed RAF100 Flypast App is downloadable for mobile phones and tablets. As the RAF have chosen Newcastle for their 100th year celebrations, bespoke elements have been designed specifically for the Festival of Flight. It gives the user the opportunity to view a Red Arrows flypast in Augmented Reality, collect and store 3D models of aircrafts and reveal stories and information about each aircraft. The app is available to download on Apple and Google Play app stores by searching RAF100 AR Flypast.

The style of art, more commonly known as "outsiders Art" primarily conceptual surrealism work inspired by past masters such as Rubens, Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Raphael whilst looking at cultural influences of years gone by.
Brick Smith songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Lisburn and has recently begun work as a solo artist after spending most of his life in bands. His music nods towards his influences- Tom Waits, Laura Marling, Paul Simon, Nick Cave and Jeff Buckley.
