The collision, involving a black BMW and silver Peugeot, occurred around 10.10am on Thursday, 16 January.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them. They are particularly keen to speak to the drivers or passengers of two vans which were stopped at the junction between the yellow boxes at the time of the collision. Police in Newry can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
