On Wednesday, 23 January, the owner of a Toyota Avensis car met with a female buyer in Hill Street and exchanged the car for a sum of cash. It was subsequently discovered that the cash was counterfeit.
The female buyer was travelling in a black Nissan Primera car. Police worked to locate the two vehicles which were subsequently recovered on Thursday, 24 January in Newry and Loughgilly.
A 42 year old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation, possessing counterfeit currency, tendering counterfeit currency, theft of a vehicle and possession of drugs. A 30 year old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. Both men were released on bail pending further enquiries.
