Write a commentA distressed male was helped to safety by Police and local rescue teams during treacherous weather conditions at the weekend.
Over 20 highly experienced Members of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team and the National Search and Rescue Dog Association assisted during the successful rescue.
On Sunday past police were alerted to a distressed male who was missing in a wood filled, mountainous area, close to Camlough Lake. Officers worked to establish communication with the missing person and searched the area in increasingly dangerous weather conditions.
The male was found by police within hours and taken to hospital as a precaution.
Chief Inspector Davy Beck, Newry and Mourne Area Commander said: "This is an excellent example of police work at its best and demonstrates the commitment of officers in Newry and Mourne to protect life and provide a personal service to any member of the community who needs our help and assistance. Through the swift action of police officers the missing man was found and brought to safety before he was seriously hurt or injured. "Officers worked tirelessly with family members to locate this male. The officers involved are to be commended for their brave actions during treacherous and dangerous weather conditions."
