Write a commentPolice in Newry are asking parents to speak to their children about the consequences of stone throwing following an incident at Chapel Hill on Saturday, 2 February.
Around 4.25pm a group of four or five youths threw stones at a number of cars driving along Chapel Hill. One car sustained damage to the roof.
Constable Bell, Newry Response, explained: “This is extremely dangerous and young people need to be aware of the possible consquences of their actions.
"Not only could you face charges of criminal damage which would affect your chances of further education or travel later on in life, but you also run the very real risk of injuring or even killing someone. If a stone you throw cracks or breaks the windscreen and prevents a driver's ability to see properly, you could find yourself responsible for a road traffic collision.
"We do not want to see anyone hurt so we are asking the youths involved to reconsider their behaviour and stop this activity. We would also ask parents to speak to their children seriously about stone throwing and warn them of the dangers of getting involved in this antisocial behaviour.
