A goal from Donegal’s Paddy McBrearty two minutes in set the pattern for the game with Armagh not able to scavenge more than 2 points in the first half, heading for the break Armagh 0:2 Donegal 1:9.
In a game that saw Donegal defenders hounding Armagh en masse very little scoring chances were on offer. Two goal opportunities just might have changed the game around in the second half but they weren’t to be in a day that Armagh never really got the opportunity to play their way. Jamie Clarke’s attempt at goal rattled back off the post while Ciaron O’Hanlon was deprived by a fantastic save from Donegal goalie Paul Durcan.
Despite Donegal only scoring three times in the second half with a goal and two points, the damage had already been done and Armagh never ever looked like putting on a winning performance in front of the 18,000 home crowd.
