St John Bosco Seniors
Naomh Eoin Bosco 0-10 Tullylish 1-14
The seniors lost the second game of the group stages of the championship on Friday night in Hilltown. An excellent first half performance, at the end of which they lead 7 points to 3, was followed by a very poor second half display and they eventually lost the game by 7 points.
As a result of this defeat the boys must beat Attical in the final game of the group to reach the quarter finals. This game is due to take place in Rostrevor on Friday 30th August at 6.45.
In the meantime the team return to league action, away to Drumgath next Friday night 23rd August at 7pm and all support is welcome.
St John Bosco U14’s
Bosco 4-05 Drumgath 5-18
Having won division three Bosco under 14 boys were moved up to the B Championship this year. As a result they travelled to Drumgath on Wednesday last for their first game. Playing at the higher level allied to the absence of any games for the previous six weeks was a cause for concern going into the game. And so it proved against a decent Drumgath side.
That said the boys in no way disgraced themselves and battled gamely to the end. Drumgath took an early lead with a goal and five points before Bosco settled. However Bosco fought their way back with goals from Bill Finnegan and Ryan Mc Aleavey and points from Ruairi Lavery and James Harkin. At the break it was Drumgath 1-10 to Bosco's 2-03.
A ten minute spell in the second half saw Drumgath pull away which left Bosco chasing the game.
Fitness and lack of matches started to tell even though the boys never let the heads drop. Ryan Mc Aleavey and Ruairi Lavery worked tirelessly throughout and did their best to set up numerous attacks. Howevewr it just wasn't our day. Still there is a chance for redemption on Monday night with a home game with Attical.
St John Bosco U12 Girls
U12 Girls record another impressive victory against Rostrevor Wednesday 7th August 2013
With players now returning from holidays the u12 girls continued their impressive league form with an excellent victory over a determined and skillful Rostrevor team.
The goals were scored by Chloe Quinn (with two), Sinead Quinn and Aine McCabe but perhaps some of the best scores were points contributed by Nicole Cunningham, Ciarrai Lavery, Traesa McKinley and Aoibheann Quinn. As always Eden Casey and Niamh Burns provided great defensive cover.
The girls now have a busy end to the season with a number of pieces of silverware up for grabs.

U12 Girls maintain their 100% home record against Clonduff Wednesday 14th August 2013
This game was always going to be very difficult and 10 minutes into the 2nd half the sides were level after a great goal from Clonduff. But the Bosco girls were not about to surrender their 100% home record. With the pressure on, Nicola Downey soled the ball from halfway and slotted the ball into the top corner. This proved to be the decisive score as within 5 minutes Bosco had stretched their lead to 8 points with points added from Chloe Quinn, Ciarrai Lavery and a goal from corner forward Sinead Quinn.
This result makes it a two horse race between Warrenpoint and Bosco for the league with Bosco in second but with two games in hand.

U10 Girls Attend Dublin Blitz Saturday 17th August 2013
The Bosco U10 girls attended a mini blitz on Saturday in Swords County Dublin, the only club from outside the Dublin area to be invited.
The girls played five games against teams from Dublin, Meath and Wicklow winning two and in the process making new friends and enjoying an excellently organised event by Fingallians GAA from Swords.

Help Required
Plans are now well advanced for this year’s big event and the eight teams taking part are Bosco, Warrenpoint, Clan na Gael, Rostrevor, Carrickcruppin, Saval, Dromintee & Clonduff.
There are plenty of jobs to be done on the day from setting up the pitches to acting as umpires, referees, score keepers and general “runners”. We also need some people to help out with the catering in Whitegates. The tournament starts at 10.00am and should be completed by 2.30pm.

Sunday 18th August St John Bosco vs Rostrevor venue Petit Park Rostrevor
Again with solid numbers St John Bosco were able to field their usual two teams Gaels and Ógs for the now customary two ‘cross field’ 30 minute games before the big game of 30 minutes full field game.
In the Ógs game captain Rory McAleavy had a wonderful game with an excellent display of fielding and long passing. For the second week running the full forward line of Cormac White, Dessie McAleavy and Aaron Downey tormented their markers with plenty of off the ball running and excellent scores. Full forward for Rostrevor Bosco player Shea Malone (balancing the numbers) had a great game against his club members. In charge of defence Nathan Gribben marshalled his colleagues and ensured that Rostrevor attacks were thwarted.

For the Gsels Calim Gray, Aidan O’Hare and Josh Hanna were excellent in defence. In midfield Ronan Cinnamond was marking Pól Óg McCormack (who was playing for Rostrevor to balance the numbers) and these two had a terrific battle in the Gaels game and in the main game also. Goal of the game in the Gaels game resulted from a long range pass from James Boyle to Jamie Cinnamond who rose high into the air to fist the ball into the net.
The main game was an excellent display of underage football with a lot of long range passing and close scoring. With Bosco behind by 3 points at the end Padraig Caldwell caught the ball at the edge of the large rectangle and headed for goal only to be fouled just as he was about to shoot. The resultant penalty taken by Aaron Downey hit the post however the referee Adjudged that Rostrevor players had ‘broke the line’ and Aaron was told to take the penalty again which he duly slotted home at the second time of asking. The game ended in a draw which was a fair reflection on the game.

After their game against Rostrevor on Sunday the St John Bosco U10’s went over to Kilbroney Park for a warm down session with mentor Kevin Hughes. During their session Down Managerial legend Pate McGrath stopped off for a chat with the youngsters
P5/P6 Go Games Blitz U10s
St John Bosco are hosting the next round of the P5/P6 Go games Blitz at Jack Mackin Park on Sat 24th Aug 10.15am-1pm. Organised by Down County Assistant Secretary Michael O’Rourke these games provide ideal settings for the rising stars of the GAA to show off their skills and enjoy their national games.
Wednesday 18th September Golden Jubilee Table Quiz
The St John Bosco GAC are launching a new Player’s Injury Fund to help offset expenses and loss of wages experienced by senior players due to injury sustained whilst playing for their club. To get the fund of to a flying start a table quiz will be held on Wednesday 18th September in the Canal Court Hotel. So get your teams organised and let’s ensure the night is a great success.
