Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC U-8’s v St. Michael’s Newtownhamilton

On Wednesday evening the young footballers travelled to Newtown to take on their U-8 opponents. Played in a slight drizzle, the Thomas Davis footballers took on the men in blue and white. With Siobhan McKinley confident in goals and younger brother Martin gaining confidence with very game Corrinshego took the lead through Shea Gray with a fine goal. Shea finished with an impressive total of 2-1 with his point coming from a 21m free when he was fouled. Youny Caoimhe Mallon scored 4-1 while captain on the night Danny Shields battled throughout at midfield. Both Liam O’Brien and Michael Mallon performed well in defence and James Heatley was unfortunate with a few efforts on goals. Conal Havern won some great tussels in the half-forwards and is improving with each game and Shea Mallon and Ryan Byrne ran for every ball. Final score : Corrinshego 6-3 Newtown 4-9

The girls travelled to league and championship winners sarsfields on Sunday for the final league game of the season. Sarsfields settled straight away and reeled off several scores without reply which seemed to waken the corrinshego girls who replied with a well taken goal by dearbhla kearns. The momentum changed with all the attacking being done by the corrinshego girls and nicole McCann added to the tally with a goal and 3points. Sarsfields then gathered themselves and scored a goal. The Thomas Davis girls kept attacking and and finished the half 1point to the good. The second half begun much as the first with sarsfields on top. This time the home team dominated for longer. Leah mc Laughlin added a fine score followed by Danielle mcchlorey but sarsfields held on for the win. This was a superb effort by the girls against the league champions and every single one of them can hold their heads up high. Player of the match was nicole McCann.

The Minors travelled away to Davitt Park in Lurgan on Monday night to take on Clan Na Gael. With only three All County games remaining and being unbeaten this was the first time in six weeks that we had nearly a full squad to pick from. Playing against the breeze the home side started the quicker putting the first point on the board after two mins. The midfielders were struggling to judge the distance on kick-outs which resulted in the Clans having a ten min period of dominance which resulted in them being awarded a penalty only for the the ball being blasted wide. With the missed penalty and a positional change this seemed to kick a bit of life into the boys and from a kick-out the ball was worked the length of the field for Decky Loye to put the ball in the back of the net for our first score of the match. The teams traded points with the pick being a 30yrd point from the ever improving Mickey McGory. The match was evenly poised until a home player was sent to the line to leave us with an extra man for the rest of the game. The boys took advantage of the extra man by playing possession football which resulted in 2 quick goals one from the boot of Sean Thompson and another from an intercepted kick-out from Caolan Flanagan to put daylight between the two teams.
The second half was a matter of the boys not to get complacent and to drive on and that's what they done with some great football and fine points coming from Phelim Finnegan (0-6),Mark Keenan, Conor Loye and Ryan Courtney. To add to Clan Na Gaels woes they had another man sent to the line with 10 mins remaining which resulted in young Charlie Magill hitting the back off the net to complete a fine victory. We wish goalkeeper David Hankin a speedy recovery after taking a heavy fall towards the end of the game!!!! On the final whistle the boys won 4-12 0-10.
The boys travel away to Crossmaglen for the second time in the league next Monday 19th August in what seems to be a very strange decision by the minor board as the game should be a home fixture in the penultimate league game in what is sure to be a thriller, come along and give these young lads some vocal support.
