 St John Bosco GAC U14’s

Bosco 5-14 Saval 3-05

Don't be fooled by this scoreline, this was a much tighter game than the final score suggests.  Indeed this week there is a contest to report on.  Bosco travelled to Saval on Monday last to meet the only team that managed to defeat them last season.

Played in a strong swirling wind this game was very evenly matched in the first half. Bosco gained the upper hand with scores from James Harkin (5points) and Kane Rossiter (2goals) in fine form.  However Saval kept themselves in the game with 2-02 of their own.  In fact only for some excellent saves from Ronan Haughey in the Bosco net we could have easily been behind at halftime.  Saval forwards were proving a handful and the Bosco defence had to work hard to contain them.

One aspect of the game causing concern was the mounting free count against Bosco.

At halftime Bosco mentors used the famous 'hairdryer' treatment to get a response from the team.  This seemed to do the trick as Bosco gradually asserted control in the second half and began to play the way they can.  Oran Keenan, Glenn Hanna and Tiarnan Holmes took control in defence which provided the platform for Bosco dominance.  James Harkin certainly had his shooting boots on, finishing the game with 14 points.  Kane Rossiter was ice cool in front of goal, bagging a total of 5 goals.  Saval were restricted to 1-03 in the second half meaning we ended with a comfortable win.

Monday night its home to Mitchels, no doubt another tough battle.

St John Bosco GAC U10’s

The U10’s travelled out to St Pauls Secondary School pitch to play Shane O’Neill’s on Sunday.

With 20 players showing up for St John Bosco and 12 for Shane O’Neill’s the Bosco and Shane’s mentors agreed to field four teams. Bosco Gaels, Bosco Ógs, Shane O’Neill’s Gaels and the fourth team was Shane O’Neill’s Ógs which comprised a mix of Shane’s and Bosco players.

The Gaels game was a strong match with some fine examples of excellent skills and hard football from both teams. With Matthew Monroe and Calum Grey missing the Bosco team were without their regular fullback line. These slots were filled by Nathan Gribben and Cormac Flannigan who played superbly restricting the Shane’s forwards to long range shooting.

The Ógs game with Bosco men in the green jerseys of Shane O’Neill’s  saw some great tussles between ‘teammates’ with Aidan O’Hare marking Pádraig Caldwell, Callum Quinn marking Ciaran McAlinden and Cormac White coming head to head with Dessie McAleavy.

Next up for the U10’s is the Go Game blitz hosted by St John Bosco GAC on Saturday in jack Mackin Park at 10:00 a.m.
