Cormac Clarke - 3rd in Boyne GP

Cormac Clarke took 3rd in annual Boyne GP in Slane, Co Meath at the weekend.
The 100K race on the rolling roads around Navan and Slane. The race was fast and furious on dry roads but conditions were blustery.
Cormac was in several early breaks which were all dragged back by the 80 strong group of A1/A2 riders. However as often happens 2 riders Ryan Sherlock and Greg Swinnard were somehow allowed away building up a gap of over 1 minute.
Several attacks saw 4 more riders getting clear and they gained time rapidly as the bunch started playing about. By the start of the last lap the 2 leaders had 1 minute on the 4 chasers who had almost 1 minute on the peloton. Cormac soloed across the 1 minute gap catching them with just 2 km to the line.
After such a massive effort very few would have the legs to sprint but in the final burst Cormac took 3rd spot with ease to chalk up his first podium finish in 2014.
Womens Race

In the women’s race it was Newry Wheelers Kerri Campbell & Alwynne Shannon who represented the club well. The race was plagued with a few crashes however the ladies rode well throughout avoiding the crash with Kerri finishing in a respectable 10th position overall, the ladies racing well early on in the season.
