MATCH REPORT

O’Hagan Memorial  Tourament

Lisummon, Co. Armagh  Saturday 7th September 2012

On Saturday  morning the heavens opened  and the Summer was finally at an end, with constant rain and a biting cold wind ,  it could have been easier to stay   both at home and in bed. But credit the 10 young footballers who represented their club with pride.

Our first match was against the bigger and more experience Granemore side, but with Ronan Casey and Danny Shields performing well at midfield, we went in at half-time a point apiece. Sean Dowdall pulled off some great saves and his brother Emmett battled hard at half- back. In the end we lost 0-4 to  0-1. This was our first ever encounter with St. Mary’s Granemore at this level.

Game 2 saw us  battle with old foes Forkhill who took a quick 0-2 lead, but Ronan Casey and Jarlath Jennings had Corrinshego  on level terms by half time. With Adam Travers suffering an injury he replaced Sean Dowdall in goals and Sean in turn dominated midfield and scored two great goals, however , goals are worth only 1 point in this tournament rules. Young Martin McKinley also got on the scoresheet when he pulled on a loose ball and drilled it to the back of the net. In the end  Forkhill and Corrinshego exchanged points to leave the score 0-5 a piece.  Our next game in section ‘C’ saw us battle with St. Joesph’s   and  we knew a  a big win over St. Joesph’s would get us into the Shield final, so Corrinshego were determined from the start with both Rony Casey and Jarlath Jennings  performing heroics from the start. Danny Shields and  Emmett Dowdall covered every blade of grass as Corrinshego won  0-8 to 0-1.

Corrinshego got a bye in the final were they met semi-final victors Whitecross who were strong in their earlier games. From the start the full back line of Holly Loye and Lauren Travers caught  some great balls and set up the ever improving Jarlath Jennings for scores. Sean Dowdall was a constant presence at midfield while forwards Martin McKinley and Liam O’Brien  never gave up on any lost cause and Adam Travers was reassured and confident in the Corrinshego goals. At the final whistle Corrinshego joint captains Jarlath Jennings and Danny Shields received the O’Hagan  Shield on a scoreline of 0-5 to 0-3. Thomas Davis Corrinshego would like to than the Lisummon  GFC Club for their well organised tournament  and hospitality and we look forward to 2014 when we strive to retain the Shield.

Corrinshego : Adam Travers, Holly Loye, Lauren  Travers, Jarlath Jennings, Sean Dowdall, Ronan Casey, Emmett Dowdall,  Danny Shields,Liam O’Brien and Martin McKinle

Under 14 Championship Shield

Corrinshego v St Michaels Newtown

3-14  V  2-9

Corrinshego u14s booked their place in the shield final over a resolute Newtownhamilton side who worked very hard throughout to stop the home side progressing, but it was Corrinshego's forward play and place kicking, which has been the bedrock of their season so far, that enabled them to advance into the final.

The home side began like a house on fire with full back Niall McShane marauding forward at every opportunity to score a goal and a point in the opening 5 mins, however it was this open and attacking play that led to the away team's opening goal. The away side also added a few points to their total before Corrinshego struck back through half forward Ryan Gray, who struck the back of the net before adding another 2 points to leave the score 2-7 to 1-4 at the break.

The second half was a much tighter affair at times, especially in the opening ten minutes. The visitors placed two points over the bar before our own lads responded with 2 points from vice captain Adam Loughran. Ryan Connolly quickly added a well taken point, before Newtown scored their second goal, which struck more impetus into the home side, culminating in a fine goal from midfielder Conor Jennings. This goal and a great point from substitute Brendan McLoughlin sealed the win, before Adam Loughran added 2 points to the final total.

A well deserved win for the boys which gives them the chance to win their first piece of silverware this year.

Well done lads and good luck!

MATCH REPORT

Tomás Dáibhis 5-08     An Ghráinseach 2-06

Thomas Davis Under 16’s continued their unbeaten league run with a hard fought win over Grange at St.Pauls school pitch last Thursday night. Grange started very well with a high ball into the square which was flicked to the net on their very first attack, a dream start for the visitors but fullmarks to the Thomas Davis lads who dug deep to register 4 points from play to put us into the lead for the first time on the 15 minute mark. At midfield Lee Courtney was outstanding with great fielding & winning breaking ball alongside his midfield partner Keyonis Crozier who probably played his best game ever in the maroon jersey who constantly broke & overturned the ball in our favour all night long. Both sides exchanged points before we finally got in for a well worked goal from full forward Declan Loye to give us a 5 point margin at half time 1-07 to 1-02.

Although leading at half time we hadn’t played well and everybody was well aware that nothing less than a 100%  effort wouldn’t be good enough as Grange looked dangerous each time they got the ball and this was soon realised as they hit a goal and point to reduce the deficit to the minimum. Once gain we had to dig deep to get scores, up front Declan Loye was in top form forcing the visitors to concede a couple of frees which allowed us to increase our lead to 3 points with 15 minutes to go but Grange came back trying to force the goal and only for some great stops from keeper Ronan McMahon the ending could have been very different. Heading into the last 5 minutes we held a slender lead of 2-08 to 2-06 but we finished strongly with great defensive work to overturn possession and a long ball to Declan Loye was finished to the net. This turned the game as we finished with 2 further goals from Caolan Marron & Lee Courtney to put a flattering look on the scoreline. A great result from the lads who dug deep at various times to make the hard tackles and win the breaking ball. In defence keeper Ronan McMahon had a great game with Shane Keenan, Aaron Cinnamond & Breandáin McCorry all working hard. In Midfield Lee Courtney was outstanding with a great exhibition of high fielding against very able opponents alongside Keyonis Crozier who battled & tackled for every ball. Up front Declan Loye was also outstanding with a personal tally of 2-02 on the night alongside Conor Jennings who gave a very committed performance against bigger opposition.
