Following today's Covid-19 announcement by the Irish Government that all sporting events south of the border must be held without members of the public till at least 13 September the GAA have released a short statement tonight asking the National Public Health Emergency Team to present them with the evidence which informed their decision.
Club games are being played throughout the country at present while the Allianz Football League is due to be resumed in October followed by the All Ireland Hurling and Football Championships.
The GAA statement reads "Following this evening’s unexpected announcement the GAA invites Dr Ronan Glynn and NPHET to present the empirical evidence which informed the requirement for the Association to curtail its activities.
"The Association will tonight be issuing an invitation to Dr Glynn to meet with its Covid Advisory Group in this regard without delay.
"The GAA and its members remain at all times committed to protecting public health."
The Government decision was one of several restrictions put into force from today. It's not known at present if this will affect GAA events north of the border.
