A new Performance Coaching in Gaelic Games course has been launched at the Southern Regional College at Armagh Campus, having partnered with the Ulster GAA Council to offer this nationally recognised qualification which is accredited through the Open College Network Northern Ireland.
This course will be available for all GAA volunteers in clubs and schools, and will be starting in January in the Armagh, Lurgan and Newry campuses. The course will cover such topics as Coaching Strategies, Using Technology in Gaelic Games, Planning and Periodisation and Building Team Success.
Along with senior representatives from Southern Regional College and the Sports Studies and Public Services Department, the audience also included representatives from the Ulster GAA council, Armagh and Down GAA boards and local skills organisations.
This new course backs up the previous experience that SRC have in providing courses for those involved in Gaelic Games. The College runs a GAA Academy which is run alongside the BTEC Level 3 in Sport programme, which allows learners not only the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification equivalent to 3 A-Levels, but to also participate in and develop their coaching and playing skills within their chosen sports.
For further information on the course please contact Michael McDonald, SRC on mcdonaldm@src.ac.uk or Roger Keenan, Ulster GAA Coach Education Manager at roger.keenan.ulster@gaa.ie
