Newry Athletics Club competed in Dublin, Camlough, Newry, Navan and Newcastle this past week.

Dublin Athletic Board Graded Track Meet

4 Athletes had a great night of competition at the Dublin Athletic Board Graded Meet held at Tallaght Athletic Club.  A good event to compete against the main Dublin Athletic Clubs and one to gauge performance standards.  Weather conditions were not favourable with a cold wind blowing and rain.  However, John McCaffrey and Hughie Mackin had good runs in the 1,500m and 200m; Meadow McCauley had a good long jump and Joanne McCauley ran consistently in the 200m and jumped to her satisfaction in the long jump.  No PBs on the night but a good benchmark for training as the track season progresses.

Newry 10k – Ciara takes podium

On a challenging course with a tough head wind to contend with, Ciara Coffey ran a strong 10k race.  The course which took the runners 3 loops around Newry proved tough but Ciara was able to maintain her pace and was rewarded with 3rd Female with a time of 40:11 and an overall position of 18th out of a race field of  192.

Slieve Donard Race

The weather was kind to the runners this year for the Slieve Donard Race.  This race starts at the Tourist Information Centre in the middle of Newcastle and takes the runners to the summit of Slieve Donard and back down to the finish again at the Tourist Information Centre.

Meath Hurdles Championships, Navan

Meadow and Joanne McCauley took the road trip to Navan to compete in the Meath Hurdles Championships.  This was their debut hurdles appearance.

Meadow competed well in the 80mH against strong competition and with lessons learned from this race she took on the 250mH in a time of 41:66 and rewarded with podium place of 3rd in U16.

In the Masters Race, Joanne competed in 80mH and lifted 2nd place and then with the help of her endurance background ran strongly in the 400mH to lift a 1st place.
