Newry AC had a very busy calendar this week in both local and national races. Venues this week were Bangor, Drogheda, Hilltown, Scarva, Antrim, Camlough and England.
Tuesday 15th May- North Down Track Meet
Hughie Mackin, John McCaffrey and Lee Maginnus made the journey to Bangor on Tuesday night to compete on track.

The men met with cold and windy track conditions knuckled down and focused on the task in hand. Lee Maginnis ran 61:81 in the 400 metres placing 1st in his heat. John McCaffrey and Hughie Mackin took the 1,500m race on and the ever competitive duo pushed each other with Hughie finishing with a time of 4:52:83 ahead of Johns 4:58:83.

Thursday 17th May - Drogheda Track Meet
Young athlete Grace Hamilton travelled to Drogheda and had fantastic performances in the Long Jump & 100 Metres. The talented junior jumped 3.04m in the Long Jump and lifted 1st place in her 100 Metres heat with a time of 15.3 secs. Well done Grace.
Thursday 17th May - Hill & Dales - Rocky Race
On Thursday night a strong crew of Newry AC athletes travelled to the Hilltown side of the Mournes for the Rocky Race. With perfect ground conditions and early evening sunshine Newry AC commenced their latest race challenge against a total race participant tally of 259. Warren Cartmill who is enjoying a great series of racing did not disappoint and finished 25th 38:05 2nd MV45. Paul Le Blanc followed next continuing his collection of top category placings with a time of 38:22, 28th place and 1st MV55.
29th Maurice Harte was a second behind Paul with 38:23, 29th and 4th MV40. The Newry AC Squad all followed through with 41st Rory Mulvaney 39:27 16th MO; 83rd Ronan Mynes 43:15 9th MV45 and Coach Kookie O’Hagan 56:51 6th MV60
259 in Race.

Saturday 19th May - Ulster Schools Athletics
Meadow McCauley competed in warm track temperatures against a strong field of athletes in the Intermediate category to finish in 5th position with 2:30:88.
Saturday 19th May - Scarvagh 5k Trail Race
The grounds of Scarvagh House in the village of Scarva was the beautiful setting for a 5k Trail Race of which Lee Maginnus attended. In warm and sunny conditions Lee completed the course lifting 1st place in a time of 20:03.
Saturday 19th May - Inter Counties Mountain Running Championships - Lads Leap, Derbyshire, England
Newry ACs Esther Dickson enjoyed success with the Northern Ireland Ladies Mountain Running Team. The team lifted 3rd place in soaring temperatures and a highly competitive international race field.
With a course distance of 9.5km and ascent of 518 metres, Esther led the team and was rewarded with an excellent 15th place in a time of 59:36.

Sunday 20th May - Tri a Tri Camlough
Sarah Jane Beattie competed in her first triathlon at Camlough and had a fantastic and strong performance. Sarah Jane lifted 1st Female and with this debut race under her belt, she is sure to lift many more podium placings over the coming months.
