Queens 1’s 1-3 Newry 1’s
Newry travelled to The Dub on Saturday to play Queens University on Saturday in the penultimate league game of the season. The Belfast Road men started well, learning from last week’s slow start and were quickly in the lead when Neil McKnight picked the ball up on the right hand side before firing a great ball across the circle to David England who took his time and found Kris Fletcher in the centre of the goal who showed composure to slow the ball home into the corner. Within a matter of minutes, it was two as Keith McWilliams picked the ball up in the circle and slipped it under the advancing keeper after a scramble in the circle. With 5 minutes to half time Newry made it 3 as Colin McKnight was the first to react after the Queens keeper saved the first shot, he latched onto the rebound and finished from the top of the D.

Queens came out all guns blazing in the second half as Newry sat back soaked up the pressure and then hit on the counter attack. The home side were seeing a lot of the ball but could not force any clear cut chances until after winning a short corner, Newry keeper Josh Porter pulled off a superb save from a drag flick. Newry could have increased their lead with Alex Irwin, Robert Irwin and Colin McKnight all missing chances with only the keeper to beat. Queens did manage to score a consolation goal with one minute remaining with a fierce strike from the right hand side of the circle. Newry Host Antrim on Tuesday night in their final game of the season.
