 QUB 1's 0-3 Newry 1's

Newry travelled to the Dub on Tuesday evening in their midweek game versus Queens needing a win to keep their promotion bid alive. Newry started well against the young and enthusiastic Queens team but were wasteful in front of goal. Colin McKnight had two chances in the first ten minutes at the front post to put the visitors ahead but was unable to find the target on either occasion. He made up for this though soon after when he fired home a short corner to put Newry ahead. Their lead was soon doubled soon after when after a short corner broke down David England rifled a shot which may have been going wide, however John Taylor deflected it goal wards to give Newry a two goal cushion at the half time mark. Newry started sloppily in the second half which brought Queens back into the game which seen them have a shot cleared off the line by captain Colin Henning and a shot strike the post. The visitors rode this period of pressure and managed to get a third with Richard Nummy finishing off a fine passing flowing move. Newry now have three games left in the league campaign with a tricky match away to Campbellians coming up on Saturday.

Campbellians 1's 1-3 Newry 1's

This has typically been a tough game for Newry over the past number of seasons and Saturdays fixture was no different. The league leaders started brightly and had Campbellians pinned back for the open exchanges but could not make their pressure pay. As the half wore on Newry seemed to take their foot of the gas and began to make silly mistakes letting the home side gain some confidence and create a few chances of their own. Richard Nummy eased the Newry nerves when he fired home a flick to give the visitors the lead which was short lived as Campbellians equalised through a short corner when the umpire and blown for a goal without the ball crossing the line. The second half was better from Newry as they piled on the pressure in search of another goal. The finishing let Newry down on a number of occasions before they finally found the break through when Kyle McCombe slotted home. Robert Irwin made it three soon after to give Newry a two goal lead with ten minutes remaining when Richard Nummy broke into the circle and laid the ball off to Irwin who slotted the ball low into the bottom left corner. Newry played the time out for the remainder of the game glad to have gotten out of jail with the three points after a lacklustre display. Newry's next game is against North Down in match that will go a long way to deciding where the league title will finish up at the end of the season.

Newry Ladies 1 Mossley 6

On Saturday, 1st February, Newry Olympic Hockey Ladies 1st XI played Mossley1st XI Ladies away at UUJ, Jordanstown at 4pm. Weather conditions had taken a turn for the worse but both teams nevertheless played on through the gales and rain. Mossley won the toss choosing pass back and were on the attack from the whistle but Newry battled back and were awarded a corner within the first five minutes. Despite the weather conditions both teams fought hard in the Mossley circle but nothing came of it. Mossley battled back but found themselves against a hard to penetrate Newry side. Mossley had a couple of chances with forwards keeping the pressure on the Newry defence but marking was tight. Eventually, Mossley went into the lead form a short corner but Newry equalised from a flick scored by Debbie Barry. Half time score one all.

At the beginning of the second half both teams came out to face each other in terrible weather conditions with Newry running into the rain and wind. Mossley scored again from a short corner in the first fifteen minutes which seemed to have an adverse effect on Newry as they lost their positioning and were unable to make anything of their final few chances. Mossley dominated possession and were intent on breaking down the Newry play with constant pressure which led to a further four goals and one own goal.
