Dearbhail Savage and Maeve Robb from Saddle and Reins Special Olympic Equestrian Club, Newry will represent Ulster in the All Ireland Special Olympics taking place in Limerick next month and they were given a boost last week with a surprise visit from Michael Ruane, Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council.
Saddles and Reins took part in their regional finals and came home with a bag full of medals as they swept the boards in Coleraine amongst Ulster’s finest.
This was their first time in the competition and they are now recognised as one of the premier Clubs in Ireland.
Saddles and Reins, Chairman Bernard Robb said that “This is an exciting time for everyone in the Club, we will be cheering on our Club and their friends from all over Ireland in Limerick, congratulations to the athletes and all the volunteers and our head coach Mrs Wendy McCrea for bringing the athletes to this level”.
The mayor congratulated everyone involved and wished Maeve Robb and Dearbhail Savage and all our Special Olympic Clubs great success in Limerick.
