Pike Fishing Champion

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Colman Burns made a small presentation

 in the District Council Offices, Monaghan Row to Thomas McCabe, All Ireland Pike Fishing Champion.

Thomas, a Council employee has been fishing most of his life and it was a tremendous achievement for him when he won the All Ireland Pike Fishing Competition at Corglass Lake, Longford on 21 February 2009. Winning the prestigious title means that Thomas is now the Captain of the Irish Pike Fishing Team.

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Colman Burns said “I am delighted to host this reception to-day for Thomas McCabe, his wife Marie and daughters Ashlynn and Shauna”. He concluded by adding “your dedication and expertise in fishing and achieving the highest accolade of “All Ireland Champion” is a great personal honour to not only yourself and your family but to the entire Newry and Mourne District and I wish you every success with all your future endeavours.

Thomas McCabe thanked the Mayor for hosting the reception and he said “he was delighted to be officially recognised by the Council for winning the All Ireland Pike Fishing Competition”
