Our senior men suffered a narrow but disappointing two-point defeat at home to Eire Óg on Saturday night, 2 – 10 to 2 – 8.
The sides swapped points in the opening minutes with Ryan Quinn scoring for the Shanes before a fast- paced move saw Matthew Girvan put David McCabe in on goal only for him to be hauled down in the small square. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Paul O’Rourke stepped to emphatically dispatch the penalty to the roof of the net and give his side an early three-point advantage. However, Eire Óg scored the next three points, one from a free, to tie the game before Ryan Quinn popped over his second point of the half to put the Shane’s ahead again but their lead was short-lived as Eire Óg netted their first goal of the game and followed up with another point to put them three points to the good. Matthew Girvan pointed for the Shanes to reduce the deficit to two but Eire Óg scored a couple of late first-half points to see them lead by four at the break, 1 – 7 to 1 – 3.
The Shane’s made a brilliant start to the second period and three points in the opening five minutes had them back to within one, the scores coming from Micheál Brady and free each from Paul O’Rourke and David McCabe. Eire Óg replied with their eight-point to edge further ahead and could have been even worse for the home side but the Shane’s keeper Conor Ruddy made an excellent save to prevent and an almost certain goal. The save seemed to lift the Shane’s and when a brilliant ball from Conal O’Brien found David McCabe the Shane’s full-forward bore down on goal before rifling the ball to the back of the net to put his side back in the lead by one. Conor Ruddy then pulled off another great save, palming the ball behind from another goal bound effort but from the resulting ’45 Eire Óg tied the game with a well taken point. A Paul O’Rourke free was quickly cancelled out by another Eire Óg point to keep the sides level heading into injury and a Matthew Girvan point a minute into added time seemed to have won the game for the Shane’s. However, with thirty-three minutes on the clock a high ball into the Shane’s square was flicked to the net and sealed the win for Eire Óg on a score-line of 2 – 10 to 2 – 8.
The senior men return to action next Sunday at home to Forkhill at 2.00pm.
Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies have a challenge game on Monday night, 4 June at home against Saval at 7.15pm. Training continues on Thursday at 7.00pm.
U12s
Saturday saw our U12s take part in the annual Newry Mitchell’s tournament which saw forty-seven teams from thirteen counties take part. The Shane’s were in a group alongside Crossmaglen, Newry Shamrocks, Buncrana, St Colmcille’s and St Peregrine’s. The young Shane’s were unlucky not to progress to the quarter-final stage this year but they played a lot of good football and gained a lot of experience from the tournament. We would like to thank the Mitchell’s for their invite and congratulate them on what was another well-run tournament and thank-you to all the players and parents for attending on Saturday......onwards and upwards.
U12 Girls
Our U12 girls were in action against Dromintee on Sunday afternoon and in a game, which was played in extremely hot conditions the girls put on an excellent display of football. Despite playing some brilliant stuff they came up just short, losing out by just a single point but hopefully they can take their performance into next Sunday at home to Pearse Ógs. Well done to all the girls and training continues as normal on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
U10s, U8s & U6s
All our U10s, U8s, and U6s have brilliant evening last Tuesday when they all travelled to Correnshigo to play a few matches. All the children played some brilliant football at all three age groups and it was great see so many youngsters out and abut and enjoying themselves. Well done to all the players, managers, mentors and parents and a big thank-you to Correnhsigo for their hospitality.
Family & Friends Sponsored Walk
The club would like to invite all our club members, players, parents and friends to our sponsored walk next Sunday, 10th June. We will be leaving the clubhouse at 11.00am to walk to Derramore Woods before returning to the club for a BBQ and snacks for all walkers. Sponsor cards will be given to all our footballers from U6 right through to Senior and all donations, big or small will be greatly appreciated. As an incentive we will offering prizes at each group for the player with the most money raised on their sponsor card. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in on the day so why not bring your family friends along.

Armagh GAA Club Draw
Tickets for the last Armagh club draw can now be bought at a cost of £25.00 each which will see prizes of a Renault Clio and numerous monthly cash prizes on offer – 2nd prize £3,000; 3rd & 4th prize £1,000; 5th & 6th prize £500; 7th – 16th prize £100. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member.
Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 3, 4, 25 & 27. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at £1,300.
Community Walk-Way
Leaving your son or daughter to training....then why not spend your time using our Community Walk-Way around the pitch while your children train. The walk-way is a great facility, in a safe environment and is open to everyone in the community and can be used at any time.
